"Possum Kingdom Real Estate has been successful since 1971 because we have always made our business decisions based upon what is best for our clients, and that's not just talk," said Mary Lou Palmros, former broker of record for more than 20 years. The company has literally been forged by fire and is known today as RE/MAX Possum Kingdom Real Estate. "We are a very 'well oiled' machine," she added. "We are very proud that we have had the privilege of assisting thousands of prominent Texans become our lake neighbors, and we intend to continue to be the gold standard in resort real estate." In 1995, Keith and Vee Hanssen landed on the West Side of PK. "Both of us were award-winning real estate agents in a much more competitive real estate market, but we relocated to the lake area because we were starting a family and quality of life was our main priority," said Keith Hanssen. "Not long after we arrived, we met Mary Lou and fell in love with her like everyone else does," he added. According to Vee Hanssen, Mary Lou had everything to do with them surviving that first year. Keith spent time on a tractor, mowing, just so they could pay their bills. They were blessed on their timing and ended up buying Possum Kingdom Real Estate Inc. from Mary Lou with the condition that she stayed on as their mentor. Besides, she had sold more real estate than anyone else at PK Lake from the 1970s and continued to do so all the way through the 1990s.

With Mary Lou's wisdom and the Hanssen's sales experience, they carefully started growing their team of "Lake Expert Agents." Katina Maddin joined the company in 1998 and started the post office and continues to manage it. Also in 1998, the first Welcome Center was built. "Having the Welcome Center has given us a 'destination location' for prospective buyers and has provided us with a great opportunity for the agents to meet visitors to the lake," said Vee Hanssen. Debbie Zahn, Jan Kincer and Lesa Pawley joined Possum Kingdom Real Estate in 1999. They won various awards over the years, including Top Producing Partnership every year since 2005. Lesa Pawley, Debbie Zahn and Keith Hanssen have just been named to the prestigious RE/MAX Hall Of Fame for each producing more the $1 million in commission income. Pam Harris joined the company in 2002. Harris' years of experience earned her the honors of Individual Top Producer 2005-12 and the RE/MAX Platinum Award. John Morris came on board in 2003, and in 2005 he was Agent of The Year. Jenna Hawkins joined the company in 2008 and has earned the RE/MAX Platinum Award and the Company Top Producer of 2011 and 2012. In 2010, RE/MAX's Rising Star of The Year Award recipient was Raquel Harbin. She was also named Agent of the Year in 2011. Ronda Gibson joined the ranks of the most experienced agents at Possum Kingdom in 2010. She was the Rising Star of The Year in 2011. In 2011, Donna Masterson signed on as an employee and management encouraged her to quickly become an agent. In the first quarter of 2013, Keith Hanssen was named in the Top 100 Agents in the United States for RE/MAX and eighth overall in Texas. As business boomed, RE/MAX added Yvonne Calloway as director of first impressions and Pam Hoodenpyle as director of agent development. RE/MAX Possum Kingdom Agents have now closed more transactions in Palo Pinto and Stephens Counties, according to the MLS, than any other real estate broker so far this year.
