Food, fun and fireworks will mark the July 4 holiday in Palo Pinto County next week. In addition, there will be camping and boating with lots of water and beaches. Graford's annual Fourth of July in the Park begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 4. As in years past, there will be hot dogs, ice cream and cake as well as music from Swing Country, with Brady Bowen. "There will be fireworks about 9:30," said Robert Ray, the evening's organizer. The park is located on Main just north of Highway 254. Mineral Wells' Independence Day celebration at Ram Stadium will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4. The event is a collaboration between local law enforcement and PRAY Mineral Wells. Chicken Express will sponsor the fireworks display and the stadium will open for seating at 8 p.m. There will be live music, vendors, and police and fire apparatus on display outside the gates. Attendees will also have access to crime prevention information and youth identification resources. The Grille at The Harbor will hold its eighth annual Fireworks Show Friday, July 5. There will be free courtesy boat slips and a lawn area for viewing. Food will be the order of the day Saturday as the PK Lions Club will offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast. The Lions Club Pancake Fest will be held beginning at 7 a.m. at the club, 142 La Villa Road, on the lake's East Side. The menu will feature all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, milk and coffee. The cost is a donation to the Lions Club.


At noon Saturday, VFW Post 2399, in Mineral Wells, will host its annual community fish fry at the post, 1400 SE Veterans of Foreign Wars St. The public is invited to attend. No to-go boxes. The meal will be catfish with all the trimmings followed by Karaoke. The canteen will be open. Meals will be served until the food is gone. For information, call 940-325-3681. The Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce will host its 26th annual Fourth of July celebration at Hell's Gate Saturday, July 6. The annual event will again be visible at Camp Grady Spruce with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and closing at 8:45 p.m., an hour before the fireworks show begins. "It is the very best place to see the fireworks," Gayla Chambers, executive director of the PK chamber, said. The admission to the camp is $5 per person, children under 3 are free. There will be concessions and picnics will also be allowed. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. "There will be activities for the children as well," she said. "There will be no access to the camp by boat," Chambers said. "All that wish to take part in the activities on land are encouraged to enter through the gates. "Not only is this a great place to see the fireworks, it's also a great experience," she continued. Chambers said that the event is paid for by the chamber every year and donations are appreciated. Pam Wheat said that, while the chamber did raise about $2,800 one weekend, there is still another $17,000-plus that is needed. The fireworks show will be put on by Lone Star Fireworks of Possum Hollow. T-shirts are available and can be purchased at the chamber, Whataburger and the Trading Post.
