Paula Kay Freeman, 43, formerly of Mineral Wells, received a 75-year sentence and a $10,000 fine for fraudulent possession of identifying information of an elderly individual.
Palo Pinto County District Attorney Michael Burns said it took the jury just 40 minutes to return the sentence.
"She said, 'I'll just plead guilty and let a jury assess punishment,'" Burns said.
He explained that the 73-year-old victim lived at the Crazy Water Retirement Hotel in Mineral Wells. The allegation was that Freeman, an employee there, obtained checks from his room and passed them at Walmart - a total of $27,300 in an eight-month period.
"She's buy big ticket items then her husband would bring them back the next day for cash," said the DA.
