Saturday saw the inaugural Jackets Float Kids Don't life jacket program for children at area swimming and camping locations.
By far the most active location was Sandy Beach.
"It was wonderful," said Ronda Gibson, organizer of the PK program. "It just blew me away how many children came for jackets."
With locations at Sandy Beach, North D&D and Bug Beach, volunteers handed out a total of 160 life jackets.
Gibson said there were few people at Bug Beach and closed that location Sunday morning.
Gibson wanted something more to come from the tragic death of Wyatt Dale Terasas, 3, who died July 7 in a drowning accident at Sandy Beach.
The Terasas family, too, wanted to help prevent a similar tragedy.
Gibson, along with Wyatt's family, initiated the program collecting donations and establishing the non-profit organization.
Wyatt's grandmother, Tracey Terasas, along with family friends, released balloons and offered a prayer along the shoreline at Sandy Beach in remembrance of Wyatt.
"I just can't thank everyone enough," Tracey Terasas said. "This is the beginning of healing for my son. I'm just thankful for everyone here."
"We're going to start working for next year," Gibson said. And we're making contact with a couple of other lakes."
