The 2013 LaMancha BBQ Cook-Off will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, at Lamancha Lake Ranch, Lake Leon, Eastland. The proceeds from the event benefit local animal shelters and CARE animal rescue which serves a wide area including parts of Palo Pinto, Stephens, Eastland and Erath counties. This cook off is sponsored by LaMancha Lake Ranch at Lake Leon. Jim Farrah, owner of the resort, and his assistant, Tami Walls, started this event several years ago to help the animals. CARE was invited to participate in 2010 and has been part of this event ever since. The funds that CARE has received in past years have gone toward paying vet bills, low cost spay/neuter clinics and new equipment for CARE's facility in Mingus, as well as for everyday expenses such as pet food and supplies. "It is much needed income for us," said Terry Lee. "We are very appreciative to be part of this event and greatly appreciate all the businesses and individuals that support us and make all of this possible. However, none of this would be possible without the caring people at LaMancha who donate their time and facility to the project. We want to thank them and all the surrounding communities that support this event every year - Eastland, Ranger, Strawn, Mingus, Gordon, Lake Palo Pinto and Mineral Wells." This year, a golf tournament has been added. A four-person scramble at Lakeside Golf Course, Eastland, will kick off the event at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Cash prizes will be given.
