Roger Patel said he was not expecting his Days Inn and Suites facility in a nationwide hospitality survey.
"It was a surprise to me," he said. "I just do what I do and ask the staff to do the same. Most of the results are based on customer satisfaction surveys, which is customer service."
He said Metallia collects the information.
"They gather all the survey responses, we came out on top in the second quarter of 2013."
The survey involves more than just Days Inn.
"The survey is part on Windham worldwide," he added.
The survey divides hotels into categories, such as luxury, upscale and mid-scale.
"We fall into the economy segment," Patel said.
He said there were a significant number of responses to the surveys, about 60,000 for the Days Inn brand alone.
"We focus a lot on customer service her and not only that, but cleanliness," he explained. "We have high expectations, I try to convey that to my staff..
"It's very satisfying when a guest tells you they enjoyed their stay."
