Having a pet can provide hours of fun and entertainment.
Animals have their own personalities and ideas, their own little quirks and love to find ways to attract love and attention.
Cats love anything flashy and sparkly. They love chasing anything that moves. Kittens tend to be highly playful. They also love to cuddle. They hate getting wet, hate getting a bath. Cats generally bathe themselves but it would be nice to use some fragrant shampoo on occasion.
Dogs have a goofy, silly way about them. They chase their own tails. They can sit, stand, speak and play dead on command.
Dogs can be taught many tricks. They love being held and cuddled. They want their bellies rubbed and their ears scratched. They want to play chase with the frisbee or ball.
There are many other animals that can be chosen as pets - snakes, gerbils, rabbits, horses, ferrets and turtles just to name a few.
Every animal requires a lot of hard work and patience from owners. They need training, housebreaking and taught what to do and what not to do. They need love and attention, but they also need discipline.
Picking a pet is a personal preference for most people. Some may not like cats and prefer to get a dog. Whatever pet someone chooses, that pet generally becomes family.
Eventually, pets get sick and pass away, leaving their masters to mourn them, feeling like they truly did lose a family member. Some people feel like replacing the pet right away. Some feel it is not necessary to get another animal so soon after losing one.
This, too, is a personal preference. Replacing a pet right away does not take away the love and affection shared with the one that died. It just means that the pet owner does not wish to be alone and does not want to miss the wonderful side of owning a pet.
There are good and bad with owning a pet, just like there are pros and cons to practically everything in life. The decision to own a pet is a big one and should not be taken lightly. It is a huge responsibility but can also be one of the greatest joys.
