Hell's Gate Bass Club held its final tournament of the year under perfect conditions at Possum Kingdom Lake Dec. 15. Under cloudless skies with a slight breeze, a far cry from the brutal weather of the previous week, members were treated to a great day on the water, even if the fish were not biting. Bud Boenisch had no trouble finding fish, he weighed in four fish that tipped the scales at 14.66 pounds for first place. Mineral Wells' Don Welch had 12.6 pounds for second place including a 6.24 pound bass. Robert Baldwin captured third place and had the big bass of 6.56 pounds, while Bobby Koncak netted the fourth spot and free entry into the January tournament. Welch held on to the year-to-date tournament lead over a fast finishing Koncak.

Barry Smith snagged third place, while Boenisch vaulted several spots into fourth. Local guide Mike Hallford, a solid performer all year, nailed down the fifth position. Smith's 9.17-pound catch held on for big bass of the year with Hallford's 8.82 fish in second and Baldwin's 8.1-pound bass placing third.
