TPWD Public Meeting
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed facilities and recreational use concept for Palo Pinto Mountains State Park 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Opel Guest Chapel, 321 Houston Ave., in Strawn.
During the meeting, proposed facilities and recreational use will be discussed.

Friday, Aug. 8
Murray Family Fundraiser
Jack County Rural Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraiser to benefit the Murray family will take place 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Perrin Elementary School gym. There will be a barbecue dinner, auction, bake sale and more to help Cody Murray and his family who were injured in a well explosion Saturday, Aug. 2.
To donate auction items, bring them to the Jacksboro Fire Station by 4 p.m. Friday. Cash donations may be made at the Jacksboro Fire Station, to any Jack County fireman or at Bank of Jacksboro.
Cooking Class Deadline
Friday, Aug. 8, is the deadline to register for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Bread Basics day camp, with a focus on food and fun.
The camp will take place 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, and is open to youth in third through eighth grades at the extension office, 221 S. Fifth Ave. in Palo Pinto.
Participants will get hands on experience in the kitchen as they learn about making bread.

Back to School Fair
The location of the 17th annual Back to School Fair has changed its location but not the hours.
The annual event will be held 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Mineral Wells High School.
While organized by First Baptist Church Mineral Wells, this community event is supported by many local churches, businesses and individuals.
All the supplies distributed at the fair come from donations.
Vendors, sponsors and volunteers are still needed.

Monday, Aug. 11
The Humane Society of Young County will have a low cost/no cost spay and neuter clinic Monday, Aug. 11.
Space is limited for the income-based clinic.

Vacation Bible School
North Oak Church of Christ, 901 N. Oak in Mineral Wells, will hold Vacation Bible School 6-8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 11-13.

Graford High School’s schedule for pre-registration will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 11, for seniors; Tuesday, Aug. 12, juniors; Wednesday, Aug. 13, sophomores; and Thursday, Aug. 14, freshmen.

Master Gardener Classes
Four applicants will be accepted into the Master Gardener program to attend master gardener training courses in Weatherford.
Classes will start Thursday, Oct. 9, and last six to seven weeks.
Application forms and additional information will be available 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Palo Pinto Agrilife Extension Office in Palo Pinto.

The United Way of Palo Pinto County will hold a Boot Scoot and Bar B Que beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, 362 N. FM 2353.
Music will be by Snuff Garrett and the evening will feature dance lessons, auction items, food and more.
Cost is $30 per person, $50 per couple.

Saturday, Sept. 27
The United Way of Palo Pinto County will hold its fourth annual Penny Auction Saturday, Sept. 27, at Mineral Wells Junior High School.
Doors open at 5 p.m., the auction begins at 6.
The grand prize will be a leather recliner.
Pennies can be purchased on site or brought along.
Activities will be held for children and youth 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays at Community Church of Possum Kingdom Lake, 329 North FM 2353, at Charlie’s Angels.
Dinner is provided.
The last Wednesday evening of every month is movie night..

First Baptist Church
