Pirate flags and treasure seekers will brave the "high seas" of Possum Kingdom Lake Saturday at noon during The Pirates of PK, an annual Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce Treasure Hunt.
Pirate crews can plunder booty and earn such honors as best and worst pirate costumes and best pirate crew. This year's event will feature treasure collection points on the water.
The event was scheduled earlier in the summer to take advantage of cooler temperatures, explained Jannet McCracken, event organizer.
"We are looking forward to a larger crowd this year," said McCracken.
The fee to participate is $15 per person per bag for booty with each additional bag costing $10.
Organizers reminded participants that the hunt is not a race and speed does not determine the outcome of the game.
Boaters will travel to several sites on the lake to collect booty that will later be calculated to determine a winner of the event. Prizes will be given away for first, second and third place.
Participants can register at the PKCC office during office hours or 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the public boat ramp located on FM 2951.
Participants can start from any point on the lake.
Each watercraft may carry as many riders for which it is rated for, but each rider will pay a separate fee for each booty bag.
Announcement of winners will be after 4 p.m. at Bonitaville.
