Alton Harold Alexander, 61, of Mineral Wells and San Angelo died after the horse he was riding was struck by a vehicle.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Gary Rozzell, information officer, said the accident occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highway 180 and State Highway 337 west of Mineral Wells.
Rozzell said Julian Morado, 38, of Mineral Wells, was driving a 2002 Mazda.
"The vehicle and the horse and rider were eastbound on U.S. 180," Rozzell stated. "The vehicle struck the horse, throwing the rider off."
At 10:34 p.m., Alexander was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Tuesday, officials with the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Morado had been arrested by DPS the day after the accident for intoxication manslaughter, driving while license was invalid, failure to stop and render aid at an accident involving serious bodily injury.
Morado remained in Palo Pinto Jail Tuesday in lieu of bonds totaling $82,500.
