By Mark Engebretson email@example.com Monday, Palo Pinto County commissioners voted on a proposed budget and tax rate. The maintenance and operations tax rate proposed by commissioners is 35.2 cents per $100 of assessed property value. That is a 6 percent increase of last year's rate of 33.2 cents. County Judge David Nicklas made the motion, Precinct 4 Commissioner Jeff Fryer made the second and the proposal passed with a 5-0 vote. A series of public hearings will be held to discuss the proposed tax rate. The first will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the county courthouse. The second will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. Final adoption is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.
