The Possum Kingdom West Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze on Arrowhead Lane Saturday that was started by fireworks. PK West VFD Fire Chief Jim Edmondson said a small parachute with a toy figure attached was launched from a cannon. The parachute caught fire and landed in dry grass. "It burned about two acres," he said. But there were three outbuildings that burned within that two acres. A building next to the residence was destroyed along with two other buildings. "We saved the house," Edmondson reported. Two metal sheds were also destroyed. "One had AK-47 rounds going off," he continued. Eight members of the department responded. Edmondson, Ron Rigdon, John Price, Dennis Hartsock, Marlin Keener, Jack Rymer, Foster Simmons and Hondo Lane were all involved in saving the home.
