The 2013 Crazy Water Festival opens today, Friday, and continues Saturday in Mineral Wells. This year's festival celebrates 134 years of Crazy Water. The festival started in 1979 to celebrate the crazy history of Mineral Wells and the famous water for which it's known. Tonight, Friday, the festival kicks off with the car cruise with classic and custom-built vehicles. The cruise will be followed by a concert at the Little Rock Schoolhouse Amphitheater. This was the first public school building in Mineral Wells. The main part of the festival kicks off Saturday with the Crazy 5K Run, followed by the festival opening at 9 a.m. Gaze at the sidewalk chalk art created by regional artists while listening to the soulful, spirited music of 50 Thick, Kevin Rowe and the Prodigal Sons and Adam Hull and the Handsome Half Breeds, among other great performers. Other attractions will include the return of Crazy Water Rahr Beer in the Beer Garden, the Crazy dunking booth, a children's activities area and, of course, the large array of vendors. The main festival grounds are in the vicinity of the Famous Mineral Water Company at 209 NW Sixth St. Admission is $3 with $1 off per canned food item donated to support local food banks.
