Possum Kingdom Water Supply Corp. advised property owners who live away from their homes at the lake to ask someone to check for water leaks or shut off the water.
"It's just a friendly reminder for non-residents," said Jeremiah Gore, systems operations supervisor. "They won't know. We just want people to go by and check or turn their water off."
Temperatures fell below freezing Thursday evening. Those temperatures rose to about 39 degrees Sunday afternoon, but again dipped below the freezing mark Sunday night. Monday night the temperature dropped to 15. Highs Tuesday were predicted to be in the 40s, which meant that frozen pipes could thaw.
Gore explained that residents with water leaks not only face high water bills, but also potential house damage.
"We do have some people who have residential issues," Gore said. "There's water going through someone's house somewhere."
