The apartment complex was a total loss.
There were flames so intense prior to the fire department arriving that power poles were burned and there was light damage to the Meals on Wheels building where heat melted the siding and burned some of the grass, Pool reported. Some of the embers from the fire were carried by the wind and caused grass fires in the adjacent power plant field and to the side of Welcome Mountain.
By 4 a.m., the departments had the fire out and were in the clean up stages, Pool reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
He explained that Mineral Wells was assisted by approximately 50 personnel from eight area departments including Mineral Wells VFD, Millsap VFD, Brazos VFD, Santo VFD, Springcreek VFD, a Weatherford Fire Department ladder truck and both Parker and Palo Pinto county fire marshals.
