A head-on crash along Highway 281 south of Interstate 20 Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of Alexander Dewayne Sikes, 20, of Hico.
Units from Santo Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Lipan VFD, Lone Camp VFD, Mineral Wells fire and EMS, Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office, Constable Marc Moon and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a 9-1-1 call that there was an accident, explosion and fire.
Lonnie Haskell, DPS information officer, said the accident occurred eight miles southeast of Santo.
“The Chevrolet Silverado (Sikes was driving), a 2009, was traveling north on Highway 281 and for some unknown reason he was on the wrong side of the highway,” he said.

The pickup came to rest on the east shoulder of the highway, its engine in the middle of the highway. Reports were that first responders found the engine on fire.
The tractor trailer, a 2010 Freightliner, was driven by Tony Weaver, 54, of Brownwood, who was treated and released at the scene.
The Freightliner came to rest on the west side shoulder and its cab was destroyed by fire and the trailer damaged by the flames.
Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Todd Baker pronounced Sikes dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.
