The National Vietnam War Museum will hold a ceremony to update the Vietnam War Memorial replica Saturday.
“I hope to see everyone Saturday, June 7, when we have a special ceremony to update the Wall,” said Jim Messinger. “The gates will open at 8 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.”
Four names will be added to the replica, the same names added in ceremonies last year at the Wall in Washington, D.C.
Guest speakers include a representative from U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway's office, retired Brig. Gen. James Spivey, retired Col. Mant Hawkins and Navy Capt. Gilbert J. Miller.
A special guest speaker will be retired Army Capt. Sarah L. Blum, author of Women Under Fire, who served a year at Cu Chi, Vietnam, in 1967 as an operating room nurse.
She was reassigned to Madigan General Hospital at Tacoma, Wash.
Today she is a practicing nurse psychotherapist with over 28 years experience working with PTSD and trauma resolution.
As a bonus, Blum will speak at 8 p.m. at the Holiday Hills Country Club for members of the Mineral Wells Women's Club, Zonta Club, Military Officers of America and the ladies auxiliaries of the American Legion, VFW and AMVTS, as well as special guests.
Dinner is at 7 p.m. For information, call Jim Vines, 940-445-0734. Walmart has generously donated much of the cost of meals for those attending.
