The Santo Lady Cats opened the basketball season on the road with a loss, falling to the Graham Lady Blues 45-43.
But against Aquila, the girls redeemed themselves with a 36-26 win. In Graham, the Lady Blues sealed the win with a three-point shot with eight seconds left in the game.
“Five for 12 from the free throw in the fourth quarter kept us from getting the game out of reach for Graham,” Santo Coach Tony Raffaele commented. The game was tied at the half and stayed close the entire four quarters. Scoring for Santo were Becca Jones with 16 points; Shanna Stevens, 11; Lyndi Jo Trammell, nine; Sarah Van Remmen, five; Tori Tackett, one; and Breley Seay, one. Against Aquilla, the Lady Cats led scoring in every quarter, taking a 10-5 lead at the end of the first that the girls never relinquished. Seay, Jones, Trammel and Stevens each scored six points; Bailey Roberson, four; and Tackett, Rice, Van Remmen and Erica Valazquez each scored a pair. The win brought the Lady Cats to 1-1 on the season. This weekend the Santo varsity and junior varsity travels to Hico for a tournament.
