Ralph F. Culver of Rowlett, Texas, was born May 13, 1930, in Baylor County, and passed away Nov. 4, 2009, at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Eugene and Sallie Fancher Culver, and brothers Gene and Joe Culver.
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loraine McCloud Culver of Rowlett, Texas; daughter Nelta Culver of Houston, Texas; son Randy Culver and wife Paulette of Carlsbad, N,M.; grandsons Robert and Sam Culver of Lubbock, Texas; and brother Bill Culver and wife Carol of Seymour, Texas.

Ralph was a 1948 graduate of Seymour High School. He attended Texas Tech where he was a member of the Wranglers. Ralph volunteered in the U.S. Air Force in January 1951 and, after his discharge from the Air Force, he entered the University of Texas at Austin. In May 1955 he moved to Plainview, Texas, to become manager of Plains Welding Supply.
Ralph and Loraine purchased Plains Welding Supply in 1970 from Mr. and Mrs. Hoyett McCloud. They started Plains Welding Supply in Carlsbad, N.M., in 1975, in Artesia, N.M., in 1980 and in Mesquite, Texas, in 1990.
In Plainview, Ralph served as president of the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Foundation. In Mesquite, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Foundation. He was chairman of the board of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce in 1999.
Ralph loved to spend his retirement years with Loraine and his family at Possum Kingdom Lake. His independence and strength will forever be with us.
A memorial service to celebrate Ralph’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210, 800-525-5841.
