Ronald Jay Derrick, 58, died at home Wednesday Nov. 18, 2009 from cancer.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 21, at Hannibal Cemetery in Erath County. Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, Strawn. Mr. Derrick was born in Abilene, the son of Dewey Albert Derrick and Loree Derrick Ford. He lived in Stephenville and was a member of Graham Street Church of Christ. He graduated from Stephenville High School where he played quarterback for the “Jackets.” He married Carole Oct. 25, 1995. They opened the Hannibal Store in 1998 and relocated their business to the Brandin’ Iron restaurant in Strawn.
The couple moved to Mingus about five years ago. Survivors include his wife, Carole “Darlin” of Mingus; his mother, Loree Ford of Stephenville; sons Cody Derrick and wife Crystal of Stephenville, and Monty Derrick and wife Jeanette of Venus; step-children Stacy Collier and husband Butch of Kempner, Coy Weems and wife Noel of Van, Kim Walker and Christy Walker; a brother, Mark Derrick of Stephenville; and sister Linda Derrick of Duffau; grandson Brayden Derrick; and step-grandchildren Grant Collier, Blake Collier and Lane Weems. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Albert Derrick; and a sister, Rhonda Marie Derrick. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Foster’s Home for Children, 1794 N. Graham, Stephenville, Texas 76401. |
