Tuesday, the Santo Lady Cats took on Mineral Wells and came away with a 34-24 win. With a slim 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Santo girls managed to match their first quarter scoring while holing the Mineral Wells girls to three. Chasen Howard led Santo with eight points and Taylor Nemeth and Payton Billue each added six. The Santo girls also traveled to Granbury for a tournament over the weekend. The girls made it to the consolation game, but fell to Amarillo, 41-48. "We had a great tournament," Coach Tony Raffaele noted. "We beat 4A Granbury; lost to 5A Round Rock Westwood, the tournament runner up; beat No. 20 3A Stephenville; and lost to No. 9 4A Amarillo High in a close game that was tied with three minutes left in the game. "The team is learning how to play hard for the entire game which will help us down the road. Our next two games (Mineral Wells and No. 5 Goldthwaite) and the Whataburger tournament in Fort Worth will be just as tough."
