The Santo Lady Cats handed Chico a 70-30 loss Friday. "Playing top 10 teams in 2A, 3A, 4A and some really good 5A teams in non-district has made us better," noted Coach Tony Raffaele. "This team is now becoming the team I knew they would become since the fourth grade. We have some games coming up that we will really need to focus on. These teams will play their best games against us because of their desire to beat Santo. The coaching staff will make sure our kids will be ready and will count on Santo to support the teams. It will be fun as we continue through the process of reaching our final goal." The Lady Cats dominated throughout, taking a 20-8 lead into the second quarter, the girls built that to a 37-17 lead at the half. The Santo defense was tough as well, never allowing the Chico girls more than nine points in any quarter. Breeana Raffaele led the Lady Cats with 14 points; Chasen Howard added 13; Courtney Flanagan, 12; Payton Billue and Madison Lasater, eight each; Megan MacPherson, seven; Taylor Nemeth, six; and Callie Wharton, two. The Santo JV girls also came away with a win, 42-10. "Our JV group continues to prepare for coming years," Raffaele reported. "We played a tough non-district schedule and it has made us better. The coaching staff will have to continue to challenge this group throughout district." The girls began with a 10-0 first quarter and held Chico to just five points in the second while adding 12 for a 22-5 halftime lead. The JV girls breezed through the third quarter with a 11-1 scoring advantage. Sadie Gann led with 11 points; Caylin Edwards scored eight; Caitlyn Finley, six; Emily Ashbrook, five; Reagan Raffaele and Sage Sparks, four apiece; and Jawnee Hess and Laura Castro, two each.
