Seven of the 13 members of the Jackrabbit Fishing Team and their instructor, Jacque Fitzhugh, were on hand at the monthly meeting of the Hell's Gate Bass Club last week. HGBC donated approximately $5,000 worth of fishing equipment that included rods and reels, canvas tote bags for tackle and a "boatload" of tackle to the fishing team. "This generous donation from the Hell's Gate Bass Club will go a long way in helping these students, especially since this program is not sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League," commented Fitzhugh. "All of the students are looking forward to the prospect of fishing on Possum Kingdom Lake this year. They are also excited about the upcoming tournament that will be held Saturday, March 15, at Lake LBJ, near Marble Falls." Bruce Ray, HGBC president; Steve McCain, vice president; and Barry Smith offered instructions on how to tie spinner baits, set up their rigs and gave other useful tips to help students in their quest to catch "the big ones." Present were HGBC members Tony Wallace, Bobby Koncak, John McCracken, Bud Boenisch and Mike Hallford. Jannet McCracken and David Fitzhugh were also present. Ray presented a special pink rod and reel to the team secretary, Samantha Roe. Jackrabbit Fishing Team members at the meeting were team president Austin Stumpfrock, Jordan Penn, Omar Gonzalez, Oscar Gonzalez, Steven Pearcy and Ricky Williams. The students watched Ray, McCain and Smith closely during the brief instructional session.
